I have no idea where places are in the UK

could it be possible to get maps on where the shire boundries are and have been

example. boundries for 1841, 1851, 1861 = Census years

it might make it a little easier for ppl who have never been to england

im sorry if it becomes alot of work but it would be so helpful to us non-poms

What I will do for now is put up a map of the current UK and Ireland county boundries.

To do the census years would take a long time and I am too busy to do all of that at the mo.

I only just found these responces (problem with hubby clearing the mail notices ) and thats why its taken me so long to answer

This site maybe useful to you for the time being, it's certainly better than nothing. It has ordnance survey maps of the UK in 1850, there's also a gazetteer which enables you to look for villages etc. Give it a try.
