Thread: the tree maker

i have already uploaded my tree into the tree maker and i have now gotten more info from an aunt but she has sent me another gedcom file

now i need to merge the 2 files but not endup with dupilcates of ppl

so, can i upload the next gedcom without loosing the info i already have or will it be replaced with my aunts data

does anyone know of another program that could possibly fix this problem, im talking adding 300+ names where i already have 160+, and this will be a problem when i send the gedcom back to her with the return info

as well as other branches with other names (slowly turning in ever decreasing circles here and if i'm not careful i will do a magic trick) as we (all 6 of us) are in every tree i have made

there is just to many relies in the family.

maybe we all shoud have been given a dose of mixamitoses (correct spelling optional)

any help would be listened to

I have just had a look and this is what it says:

Importing a gedcom file to your tree will completely and permantly erase all data that is currently in your tree. If you want to save the current data, then you should create a new tree or back up the existing tree.

The only other way is to input it by hand to your existing tree.

I will make sure from jon first just incase there is a way.

i know i can merge the 2 i have it is just the sitting here going from one tree to the other to delete the doubles and relink them to the ppl they are supposed to be connected to and making sure that the info is in the one i am keepin

or printing out 100s of pages and imputing the info (and here comes that magic trick again)

i do know of another program that will merge the info but i cant export the gedcom file from it, only import

so it aint no use doing it im trying to find another one that might be able to

as i am getting another one soon and i am hoping to sort this out befor i get 1000+ names

Unfortunately the gedcom upload would erase your current tree. Adding more information would have to be done by hand im afraid.

It will be easier to download the largest gedcom to the tree and then add the smaller one by hand.

printing off the pages from 1 tree and typing it into the other

my printer is going on strike and hubby wants to murder me for the noise going off in his ear but i am soldiering on, i was just trying to find an easy way out
