Default New owner introduction and technical issue resolved

I wanted to introduce myself, my name is Aaron. Last week I purchased AncestryAid.co.uk from the previous owner. While I am still working on getting everything transferred, I wanted to notify everyone via this announcement.

First, I want to ensure everyone that I purchased the forum with the intent to continue it, grow it and, if possible, make it even better. That being the case, should you need anything or have suggestions for how to improve the site, please do not hesitate to ask.

Now, many of you are likely aware of the technical issues with the site which began last week. Before purchasing it I raised the question of "site speed" to the former owner, he believed this had to do to a Google addon which was recently added. He removed the addon and upgraded to the latest version of vBulletin (the software the forum uses). This appeared to help with the speed, so we proceeded with the sale. It now appears that one of these changes had caused parts of the site to not work properly.

I had been looking for a solution to the "new post" issue since it was brought to my attention, but struggled to find a fix. Earlier, with the assistance of the smartest programmer I know, the issue seams to have finally been identified and resolved.

I appreciate all the member's patience and continued support as I work through this transition.

Welcome Aaron, glad to see you finally here. I for one though felt that we were just dumped during the sale process. Would it not have been better for the previous owners to either stay around until the sale was completed or the new owner, yourself, coming in straight away especially after an upgrade had been done with the normal glitches that always seem to occur with the upgrade. Also personally I find all the changes that this site has gone through to be quite annoying, you just get used to the new upgrade works and it changes again.

I don't really come on this site anymore for help with my tree as I have most of my relatives from England and the Channel Islands and my elusive ancestors are from areas where help is not really available, being Germany and Tipperary in Ireland. I come here more for the friendship that I have developed over the years and to assist others with their Australian ancestors where I can.

Hopefully the site will now come back to some form of normacy, this interum period has been really frustrating for all concerned.

    Kate

    welcome Aaron

i feel you should have come and said hello sooner, because of the problems on the site, but your here now, you stated that the software is up to date but
if you look at the bottom of the page it states vBSEO 3.5.1 which is a older version, if you go to family tree forum it is a newer version which is 4.1.5 they have no hiccups
if you click on the vBSEO 3.5.1 at the bottom of the page ithere you can update this site, little bit of information no charge this is regarding the part of your message were
    you mentioned about the Vbulletin.

Welcome Aaron, it's good to see you here.

Thank you for giving us the facts re:the site server problems.

It appears your absence was due to the transferal of the site which still isn't completed. I trust you will act as quickly as possible to resolve any outstanding technical issues, and realise buying an existing member based site is not an easy passage. I now understand the complexities you have encountered, and congratulate you for your candour.

I look forward to the site's growth and development, and I'm sure all members' will support your future and AA's future.

We can now look ahead and feel positive for the site's continued success, and put past difficulties to bed.

I echo Brian's sentiment in wishing you all the best in your new venture.

Thank you for the very warm wishes, and support. I certainly could have handled the ownership change better, but thank you for understanding. I will try to make sure technical issues don't take nearly as long to fix in the future.

Hi Aaron, welcome to AA and your new venture, congratulations on your new ownership of the site, I thought Jon had had a change of heart about selling.
I'm sure the site will go from strength to strength once the hic-cups have been sorted out.
