Hi Jon,
Could the rules of the 'Big Ancestry Aid Help Out' be changed? I do like the idea but my concern is: members post a query, then have to wait up to a week at least before the query is looked at! whereas it could potentially be answered much sooner. I've also noticed many posters don't come back to their threads, suggesting they don't realise answers have been posted, if the answers had been posted just after the request was made I think there's more chance the posters would pick them up.
But, does my idea defeat the object of the thread?

Can the default subscription mode be changed to subscribe with instant email notification? I have started emailing members when their post needs a response from them. The last few requests have been released within hours of being posted certainly the same day.
Is there a way of searching for New Posts on Family Research Items only? When I click on New Posts all the Club Rooms, Word Games and the rest of the stuff comes up - I'm not interested in any of that, which has put me off in the past as I just want to search for the items I am really interested in - Family Tree matters,
Marion
PS Pleased you are staying on Jon and love the new look!
I would like to endorse MarionW's comments. Whilst it is evident the various social and game threads are enjoyed by many, I personally derive no pleasure from them. Some times posts on these overwhelm the New Posts, and it is difficult/frustrating having to sort the wheat from the chaff.
I am sorry - but I have to disagree with MarionW and Brentnorboy. Surely it is up to the individual whether to open a thread - or not as the case may be. It is only a question of clicking new posts and scrolling down it doesn't take long to open the relevant threads.

I agree on both counts. The big help area has now been changed so that members can post their own threads. This will then send an email to them when a reply is posted.
Don, I have now changed the auto email as you have suggested
I am going to do two things on this matter:
1: I won't stop the word games on the boards as a lot of members like them.
2: I will try to figure out how to exclude the word games from the "Today's Posts" as I too feel that they don't really need to be there.
Keep the suggestions coming guys![]()
As a newish -comer may I add my twopennyworth. I like genealogy posts best but I also like the lighter side;coffee room/ word games and such. I am finding it fairly easy to negotiate this site which is a blessing and feel that any changes/improvements made as and when can only be beneficial all round.

Thanks Jon - perhaps the New Posts could be divided into two section - the Misc Board (Coffee Room, Word Games etc) and all others. That way those who are only interested in the Word Games or Clubs etc would be able to access their section easily and those only interested in Genealogy could do the same.
Again, thanks.
