Exclamation Future's Bright For Ancestry Aid

    Hi guys,

I am EXTREMELY pleased to announce that we will NO LONGER be selling AA. Chris, Kelly and myself debated and contemplated the idea but as things got closer AA tugged at the heart strings too much we decided to put in a plan for keeping it.

So what now? We are going to invest and inject the life back into the site with a series of changes.

    Moderators.
First, we will be WARMLY welcoming Pejay as a new moderator on AA. Pejay is new to being a moderator but again an invaluable asset to AA. So a big welcome to Pejay
Pejay will be moderating the boards very soon.
We also have The Lady Marion back on the boards who I am sure will be carrying on her fantastic work, joined by the infamous BigDon and Hazelnut, whom you are all well aware of by now.

    Upgrades All Round.
AA will soon be going through a series of upgrades. The plan is to make ALL features and systems on AA better and easier to use. These upgrades WILL NOT affect current records/posts/trees etc. Your records are perfectly safe and will remain so. We plan to carry out the following upgrades over a short period of time:
    • Forums 1: The AA boards will be upgraded to the very latest version of the vBulletin software it runs on. This new version is packed with great new features including Facebook integration for those of you who wish to use it.
    • Forums 2: We also plan to reduce the amount of separate boards we have. We feel we have way too many and aim to reduce them for ease of use and management. All posts that currently sit within a board planned for deletion will be merged into another board, that way NO threads/posts will be lost.
    • Mobile Forums: At some point in the near future AA will be available as an iPhone & Android application. For those of you with a smartphone you will be able to download the app for free and enjoy the forums on your phones using a VERY easy to use and read app.
    • Look & Feel: The forums and main site will have (another) new look that will be more "earthy" and will nicely link the forums and the main site together.
    • Records: I intend to join ALL our records systems (census/freeBMD/network surnames etc) into one simple to use area. In hear you will be able to submit and manage your own records with ease as the whole system will be based on simplicity of use.
    • Search Records: The search system again will be improved and made easier to use with the emphasis being placed on record recognition and potential matches.
Those are a few of the great things soon to be happening. As always, I will keep you all posted on what and when things will happen.

    Finally and MOST IMPORTANTLY
PLEASE, please reply to THIS THREAD with your thoughts and ideas. I want to know what you, the members, want from AA. Without all of you there is no point having AA. So, I beg of you, please give me your ideas on what things you would like, or features you want. I cant stress enough just how important this is to me.

Thank you all for being fantastic members and making this such a great community. If you want to help bring AA back on track then please do. Use the boards, post some content, visit regularly and most of all......ENJOY AA!!

I look forward to your comments and suggestions.

    Kindest regards

    Hi Jon,

Great news indeed. AA would not, could not have been the same without you at the helm and Chris giving us lots to giggle about and her open friendliness, and behind every successful man is a good woman; congratulations Kel you've trained your man well

I'm so pleased to hear Lady Marion is back, she's a big asset to the site - her humour and human touch will serve members well.

I extend my congratulations to Pejay who I'm sure will be a great Mod. Pejay, don't worry we'll treat you gently and I'm sure you'll soon learn the ropes. Enjoy your new post.

I'll answer the questions later. Jon. I need time to think and The Apprentice is on TV.

    Hi Jon,

I like your idea of reducing the boards as there are too many, the present layout is very confusing in particular for new members, the tidier the site the easier to navigate. In my opinion simplicity is more user friendly.

As our Chris would say - OOPS , I posted on the wrong thread and have deleted most of my post but I'm copying and pasting to 'Submit Your Ideas Here' where it was meant to be posted. I really must lay off large glasses of wine!!!!!

I applaud the idea of fewer boards - there are times when a topic might fit on any one of two or three - and it will be good to get the record section in some sort of better order. One thing I would suggest - is it possible to separate the Games from the more serious Family History posts ? Could all the games be in a section of their own so that any of us who are not interested in games do not have to plough through games posts to find what may be of interest ? This could work in reverse - some people may only be interested in the games and find it tedious to plough through Family History posts. Just a thought.
