Help for new members - part 2

This idea comes to you from Mr. Astoria, who is not a member - yet
Could new members be assigned a buddy to help them find their way around? This could be done via pm or the chat facilities.
The buddy could either be from the new members area of the world or from the area where their main search is.
Be yourself, everyone else is taken
Good idea, Astoria.
Forums can sometimes be rather alarming places for newcomers, and such an arrangement could help overcome many of the problems they face and possibly save the Moderators work in relocating posts etc.
How would this be organised though? i.e how could we implement it correctly?

Re. buddies - not all new members would need or want a buddy, some may be very familiar with forum set ups, but I think it might be nice to offer the option, if only so they have a familiar face (albeit vitual) to talk to in chat etc.
Perhaps we need some members to volenteer to be potential buddies.
Do you have a poll option on the board, perhaps we could have a vote.

Buddy systems can work but can be risque ? if allowed unsupervised, private E-m.s etc,
My vote would be to "buddy" on site for all to see, comment, put their opinions, rectify if needed,
There are many experienced Genealogical & "Gene" researchers frequenting this site lately,
probably because it is improving & spreading its very good messages ( Nice 1 Jon ),
Most researchers are helpful due to the brilliant help they We/ Self included,,received from
very experienced (headstone-rubbers Lol ) guiding our ways,,, therefore any new postee is
very likely to get excellent help,,, just need to ask,,, cheers all JohnY

How about I set up a new Member Group. A Buddy Group (abit like AA Donator) and call it AA Mentor
New members can then get in touch with the mentor if they need help with the site.
Members wanting to be an AA Mentor would be requested to apply for the group through the site.
That is an initial thought, what do you think?
