Thread: A Basic Question

Hi everyone,
I have a question about putting things on my tree.
I seem to have a large tree and while I want to put everything on it, I seem to be using up a lot of space, for instance, Occupations and Residences. At the moment I am doing them singly, but wonder if it would be better to put them all together under one heading for each person. Advise please.

Hi Thelma.

I only display basic information on a tree chart, but give each person a reference which refers to pages in ring binders containing additional information about family members - their occupation/workplaces etc, and any stories I may have about them.

All the above is in hard copy, but it should be fairly straightforward to create a digital equivalent.

If your tree is public I would add as much information as you can. This will help you make connections when other members use the new search system (nearly ready).
If you choose to do this then add the data seperately like you are doing

The thing is, I already have hard copies of all the information and still adding to it, so I'm trying to reduce the paper I'm holding on to.

I have been doing this all along, but when I look back I find that I have duplicated some of the information. For instance, on one page, I have two deaths, two marriages etc and I can't find a way to delete them, short of deleting the whole page and starting again, I hardly dare look back on them all, but I will take your advice.

Hi telliselldra, cant you edit one of the two deaths, marraiges etc , and leave out any details , and leave blank . try that n see if it works

Hi Hazelnut,
I've tried that but it didn't work, I've just been trying again and when I try to get into the full list, it goes into History mode and I can't alter anything.

Did you try this ...when you edit the extra marraige etc , leave blank then it says update record , then click .

I tried that and when I clicked, I got a little notice saying give a date for this entry.
