    Thumbs up Free BMD Records

I was alerted to a very simple idea earlier. A lot of our members add their relatives to our BMD database. This is fantastic. However, why do we need to stick to our own relatives? We can add records even if they are not related to us or our research.

I think this is a brilliant, simple idea that will help ALL members of AA. What do you all think? Is it time to start adding more and more records?

Yes it is , we all go looking at records , transcribtions , so why note others , it realy could help find those ancestors , doesnt matter what country either .

    Hi Jon,

Some of us have been doing that from the beginning. Also, those that have been transcribing grave stones haven't just left it to their own families. I have also added ones from parish records that are not recorded on the I.G.I

At the moment I have only added my own, but I will start adding others as I come across them. Anything which helps reduce the costs of someone trying to carry out research on the family history is fine by me.

Totally agree with you Bob. If we all led by this example the fat cats would not get any richer and we could all research without dipping into our pockets

    Hi Bandit,
Thats great. Where would you like to put it all? In a forum or in the BMD database? I think a forum would be good as you could easily seperate them etc and it gives members a chance to reply to the posts etc.
    What are your views?

Am just finding my way round and have just added a couple of records to see the layout. Had to have a bit of a look round before I found the add entries part and although I can see it makes sense where it is, maybe it needs an add entry or something as new people/first time users may confuse it with the freebmd site. I didn't quite realise straight away till I read this thread

I have databases that I have built up over the years for some of my family names - how would I add those ?

Haven't looked yet at Free BMD, nor added more that two or three names to tree but I will.
