Hi Rosebud1,
You are not doing anything wrong. You can now use an avatar downloaded to your own computer.

Hi Rosebud,
Follow these:
Click this: Edit Avatar
Scroll down to the CUSTOM AVATAR box and make sure the USE CUSTOM AVATAR box is checked.
Click the BROWSE button and select the image you require from your computer.
Click SAVE CHANGES at the bottom right of the box.
PLEASE NOTE THIS MESSAGE:
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 135 by 135 pixels or 195.3 KB (whichever is smaller).
