Thread: Your Views Required - Family Tree

Hi guys,



As most of you know I have been working hard to completely re-design our online family tree facility. I am now in the position where I have a few things to show you in order to get your feedback.

Hi Don,



Ok, yes you will be able to print the tree.



As for viewing your complete tree that may be difficult to achieve. You can view it in "print view" i.e when you click print tree you will see a printable version of your tree.



To show your complete tree via the pedigree view (as seen in the pictures) would be very unrealistic. If you could imagine someone with say 1000 names in their tree (which isnt alot) the page that would need rendering would be rather large and probable crash the server.



So your answers are yes to both but only in print view.

Looks very nice



My only wish would be for the marriage date to be on the person icon too.

As it helps working out what research we have to do etc. I guess if I really wanted a wish list, under each date would be the Town it occured too



I'm still not yet up to speed with the internet and tend to view online trees as a quick reference for others seeing how they are related to you ('cause I forget to update regularly!).



For those like me the maximum that can be viewed at one time (ie minimum number of clicks) is the most useful.

Will I be able to import from a gedcom file to save imputting the info?



Is there a degree of privacy available?



Who owns the information once it is on your site



Can it be totally removed/ deleted if desired.



Is it linke to other member of your site where there is a mutual interest.....

I can answer above for you



Question- 1 Yes



2 you have choice of private or public



3 you own your tree always



4 Yes their is a delete button



5 Their will be link but to get info you must contact owner of tree for the information

Hi Phil,



In answer to your question/query, the facility to add marriage dates and marriage places is already there. These date can be viewed in the profile page of the person you click on.



I have also tried to make the tree as simple to use as possible. You will see this when you start to use it upon its completion.

Just to elaborate on your questions:



1: Yes, you will be able to either manually create and add to your tree or you can simply upload your GEDCOM file.



2: The information in your tree belongs to YOU. Ancestry Aid will NOT claim any rights to your information.



3: You can have up to 4 trees at anyone time. Each tree has a delete function that will delete ALL information in that tree.



4: Each tree you have has two settings Public and Private. Private tree can NOT be viewed by anyone but yourself. Public trees can be viewed but any data relevent to a living person will NOT be displayed, only the surname.



5: There will be a facility to allow you to see if other members have data in their tree that is matched to your own data. However, this maybe implimented at a later date.
