Hi all,

I thought it best to give you all an update on where Ancestry Aid is headed.

As you all know by now, there are plans for Ancestry Aid 4 to be launched later this year. This will definately happen. AA4 development is going according to plan and the design is coming along nicely. The new look will be far more user friendly, clean and fresh.

The new feature of note is also going well and is believed to be a large part of 4.

Dont forget, as stated in this previous post:

Code:
Dear members,

This is an announcement to inform all Ancestry Aid members about the current surnames database.

The development of AA4 is well and truly under way. A new feature is going to be included in v4 that heavily relies on the surnames database. To that end many changes have been required to bring the database up to the standard required for this new feature.

On further inspection the current database WILL NOT be good enough to support the new feature. Alot of members have only added partial information on the records that they have entered and some have not included thier user details for reference, this renders the record useless.

The choice was not a simple one. Since the new feature will limit each user to a maximum of 35 surnames of interest we have decided the following:

The day before the launch of AA4 the current database WILL BE DELETED. It will then undergo updates ready for the new feature included in v4.

Is this a good thing? In a nutshell yes. I know some members will be upset that the current records will be deleted but I can put my hand on my heart and assure you that what you will be getting in return will be well worth it. The new records you enter will be more easy to edit, update or remove than ever before. The new feature itself will DEFINATELY improve your family history connections.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

This still stands.

At the moment Ancestry Aid is going very well. The member base is increasing daily aswell as records found in our databases. One to note is the Tree Maker. We are nearly at 500,000 records on the tree database already and increasing everyday.

Some of you may notice that the bigger the tree gets the slower the pages load. This is mainly because of the sheer amount of data being searched.

The current server that AA sits on can sometimes struggle to cope with th demand.

A solution would be for AA to be placed on it's own dedicated server. This, however, is a costly move which, at the moment, I am unable to afford monthly on just a soldiers wage. If any member has any ideas on how to raise the funds for a dedicated server then please feel free to come forward. All ideas are welcome!

More information will be posted as and when.

Kindest regards
