Hello,
This is my first post, sorry if I missed it somewhere else in the forums. I am having a problem attaching photos to my tree. I have uploaded the photos without incident, however when I try to attach then to someone in my tree, I get the person selection, and once selected the browser flashes, but the attached to does not change? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your help. For info running Linux Ubuntu and Firefox 3.0.1 jim |

Hi Jim,
I have been uploading a couple of photos to people in my tree and have found that it works better by clicking on the person you wish to add the photo to and uploading it in this fashion, rather that load them up through the photos tab on the nav bar.. Hope this helps.. Raven ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for your reply Raven. Yes I have tried it that way and it does work.
![]() I was hoping that the facility from the Photos folder would also work, allowing me to select up to five at a time, then linking rather than having to select a certain persons pictures. I have just come from ancestry site, and this one is so similar it is a breeze to use. If anyone has any other thoughts please let me know. In the meantime I will follow Raven's advice. Thanks. Jim |

Hi JRANDDR,
I have just uploaded 5 pictures and then added to a specific person in my tree, and it worked. Could you explain a liitle more about what you are doing to upload one. I will explain how i did it. 1. Click photos. 2. Upload 1 or more pictures. 3. Wait for them to upload. 4. Once uploaded click photos again. 5. Click the Read more for the photo you want to attach to someone. 6. You will have all the info. 7. underneath the pic you will see, attach this photo to a person 8. find the person in all the names. 9. Wait till it has finished uploading, you will be bought back to the same page. 10. Underneath where its says attach photo to person you will see the words attached to, click the link and it should forward you to the person you added it to. This is exactly what i did and it worked first time. I hope this helps? If not we will have to find another way around for you. Kelly ![]() |

Hello Kelly,
I followed steps 1 to 4, then amended descriptions etc. I did not immediately attach them to a person. I then went away and did something else. On returning clicked photos again, all the pictures were there so I then followed the rest of your steps, up to 9 where the page refreshed (flashed), but it still did not give me the link to the person in the attached to box. I have just tried it again now, by uploading another picture, and immediately attaching it to a person, and it still did not give me the link. Just one point in step 7 you say "underneath the pic you will see, attach this photo to a person", on my PC it shows "attach this photo to another person", this might not mean anything though. I don't know if it is my tree. I uploaded from a Gedcom, which had been downloaded from ancestry, and I know they have a lot of junk in their files. Would it help if I cleaned up the Gedcom, and uploaded again to a fresh tree? ![]() Jim |

Hello All.
I have just created a quick test tree using AncestryAid Tree Maker, Uploaded a pictured using the photos link and attached it to a person on the test tree without a problem. Looks like the Gedcom upload has screwed a few things up, so I will have to clean up and re upload. Thanks to Kelly and Raven for all there help, pointed me in the right direction. Might be worth noting for anyone else coming from using the Ancestry.com site, that I lost all the dates of marriages, occupations etc when the file uploaded as well. Looks like Ancestry have their own way of writing Gedcoms. Thanks again ![]() ![]() Jim |

Hi Jim,
Where you said the link tells you to attach it to another person, that means that it is attached to someone already. Now try and go to the person who you uploaded it to in the first place and you should by rights see the photo. ![]() |

Hello Kelly,
Trouble is I never did attach it to anyone in the first place, and it wouldn't tell who it was attached to, the box was blank. That's what got me thinking it could be the Gedcom and the information contained in it that was mucked up, especially as I had also lost marriage and occupation dates. I'll try cleaning up and re uploading first, and if I succeed I'll update the post, otherwise I'll be back .Thanks again for all your help. Jim |
