Default AA 4 - Revised

Revised database information

Hi all,

As you are all well aware by now, I am ALWAYS looking to improve Ancestry Aid. To that end I am already thinking about the new AA 4th Version.

The Timeline
  1. To launch the new AA4 in Jan 2010
  2. To complete the current 1841 Census databases
  3. To have an extensive FreeBMD database
The Database

Revised

We would like to finish the 1841 census databases. If this sounds like a good idea to you, and you are willing to help then please reply to this thread.

Also, we would like a drive on the FreeBMD database. This would mean that we would like all members to add as many records to it as possible. Even if you would like to take the time to go out and transcribe records for the BMD that would be great.

Ancestry Aid v4

AA4 will be a new design from the ground up. Hence why we wont launch before Jan 2010 (this could be later). The sites main goals are:
  • Simple user navigation.
  • Clean and easy look implementing the latest coding standards.
  • New forum software.
  • Enhanced user integration and user participation.
  • Enhanced user networking and data sharing.
No user, forum data will be lost for the improvements and in all honestly I dont see the new version being launched for at least 1.5 years but this gives us plenty of time to transcribe and create a superior new Parish records database.

AA Member Suggestions

Finally, I would like to ask all members to PLEASE post any ideas that you have and would like to see applied to AA. This will be how we can make the site even better so please post you ideas!

Kind regards

Jon

The 1841 Census

We will build on the 1841 in the following way.

More areas will be added to the census and we will need members to help to transcribe it. The areas are as follows:
  1. London
  2. Norfolk
  3. Hampshire
  4. Yorkshire
  5. Devon
  6. Shropshire
  7. Isle Of Man
This then covers the UK.

The way in which it will work will be that each area will be assigned to a member of staff. The staff member will then create a new group in the AA Groups area. For example The 1841 London Transcribers Group. Any member that wishes to help transcribe for that area can then join that group.
The staff member will then send you a disk to transcribe and you will be given access to a special area on AA in which to submit the information.

If you are interested, please select which area you would like to transcribe in the Poll above this thread so we can get a rough idea of numbers. If you are willing to do ANY of the areas then please reply here so that we know which members we can assign to a different group should they be short.

Kind regards

Jon

As Yorkshire is where I live and where most of my ancestors were from, I would prefer Yorkshire.
