Cool Re: Tree Maker Launches

Hi Jon;
The tree looks great, but it seems to have stripped some info from my file. I don't mean the living stuff, that's understandable, but spouses and dates for some that are a few gens back. I thought at first it was because I 'privatized' my file at home and then uploaded it. I then deleted it, unprivatized it and re-uploaded with the same result. I am using Family Tree Maker 2006 and the options for exporting to GEDCOM I used are FTM, Version 5.5, ANSI. Should I have used version 4 and or ANSEL character coding?
Thanks.
Al.

Hi Jon

Finally found time to explore the Tree maker - can it really be so easy? Will attempt to bring my tree up to date over the next few weeks (months?)

Well done

Chrissa

I can imagine how upsetting it is for someone to be so rude & ungrateful.

I`m still very much a learner at the computer (the old gray cells do`nt work as fast as they used to!) so to my way of seeing things, anyone who can do as you have in setting up this site etc etc, and for free, it just baffles me why some people can be so rude and ungrateful.

Just remember there are many people using this site who (like myself) are grateful for people like you, who are interested in helping others, and devoting much time and labour to make it possible.
I for one would like to express my thanks and gratitude, I know I do`nt visit and use the site as much as I should, health problems hold me back
but when I can, just to sit and browse through the many postings is helpful and give me ideas to try for myself.

Carry on with your good work and ignore the ungrateful slobs who can only express themselves in rudeness, one day they will get their comeuppance.

As soon as I can manage to do so, I will hopefully get my family tree included.

Hi Al,

I am not much of a GEDCOm guru so all I can say is give it a go. You never know it may work. What I do know is that there are so many variations in different peoples GEDCOM files that it really is difficult to code a piece of web software that is compatible with all types.
GEDCOM files are well known for their "bugs" too. I had professional coders doing this GEDCOM import and even they struggled with it (and believe me, these guys know what they are doing).
I am sorry I cant give you a definate answer, we will just have to try and try untill we are able to figure the wonderful world of the GEDCOM file out properly.

To eveyone else, thank you for your comments.

Kind regards

Jon

HI Al,

when you create a GEDCOM on FTM 2006. where it says FTM click on the drop down menu and click GEDCOM. still keep it as version 5.5 and ANSI.. and save your GEDCOM. try that...
