The easy way to tel is that if what you are about to transcribe is in digital/typed text the chances are that it has been transcribed.

If it is an origional document though, you have no worries.

Even if someone does post a copyrighted record by mistake, it wont take much for us to remove it from the database.

hope that helps BDM2UK.

I would like to transcribe the "extras" on the pages I have in case they are of use to others.

I have 200 viewed pages for Scotland, so that will be a minimum of 400 records. They are not all marriages so probably over 500.

When I create the system, each record can contain a wealth of information. Basically it will be up to you how much you want to input ...

That was what I could think of off the top of my head. But we DONT have to stop there. If required, more fields could be added. So we would be able to gather a mountain of information just from one simple search.

Hope that interests you all.

What you are envisaging, and doing, will be a superb enhancement to family tree research (though watch out - the 'paid' sites won't like it!).
Additional fields/categories that could be included should, perhaps, include illegitimate births and parentages, always a bane to the researcher because many of these were 'concealed' due to the shame in society at the time.
As to copyright ... programs such as Ancestry's FTM2008 allow/enable web-clipping to add media records to your tree. Perhaps to be on the safe side, it would be wise to ensure that such extracts are not included in the material that is uploaded to AA?
Good on you Jon, I believe you are set on providing a resource that all researchers will find invaluable.
Regards John.

I haven't counted the census images Raven. I will have to look. Maybe addresses will come in handy.

OK,

Having disgussed this with Chris & Kelly we have now decided that the majority rules. The system WILL go ahead.

I expect the project to take a maximum of 2 weeks to complete (but when I start something I want to get it done so expect it sooner than that).

Once Myself, Kelly, Chris & the staff have gone through the complete system of what will be included and how it will be laid out I will post a complete features list in a new thread.

Please, please keep voting though and posting your views. If you have any requests for the system please post them also. We still want to gain everyones ideas and views on the system and also work out how many people are willing to contribute records.

Thank you all for you input this morning, we have ceated a very healthy debate on this and have got some great views. So thank you for your time.

Regards

Smile Re: Vital Records

Hi ! All,
I welcome any idea which will enable users to collate more information regarding their Family history. Personally I would be quite happy to allow other users to view my considerable number of family History records which are currently held on Ancestry . Co. The ability to contact other searchers and their records is invaluable.
All the best.
