    Default AA 4.0 In Brief

As you are all well aware of by now, the planning for Ancestry Aid 4.0 is well under way. The transcribing that members are currently doing is also for AA4.

The new AA4 will be our biggest update to date. For this reason the release of AA4 will not happen untill early 2010 (this is also because I have another tour of Iraq next year).

The new AA4 is going to be very exciting and will include many new features not found on any other genealogy site on the web. Just a few that I dont mind mentioning at the moment:

    • A fantastic, bright new look.
    • Easy navigation and user interface.
    • More databases of records (mainly 1841 Census).
    • Improved user interaction.
    • SECRET PROJECT - I cant say anything about this project, rest assured it will be unique to genealogy websites!

I, more than anyone, am very excited about the new AA4 as it will be the culmination of 6 years of self learning. Basically it will be the best I can do! So as you can see it is a test for me.

If you have ANY ideas of things that you would like to see included in AA4 then please post them here, you all know that I listen to all suggestions.

    More info soon.....

    Hi Jon,

Good to hear your plans, and I'm sure you will be well supported by the growing AA community, as well as your staff and family.

Ancetry Aid may not yet be the biggest genealogy help site, but in my opinion as a relative newcomer, it is certainly the friendliest. However the site develops, this should remain one of the major strengths.

Obviously, extending the transcribed records substantially will make the site more appealing to an even greater number of people. Our research is not simply about names and dates though.. For me at least, it is about understanding how our ancestors lived and worked. For this reason, on my own (still embryonic) site includes discussions on diet and old recipes, work and working conditions, lifestyles etc. My site is too small for this to work well, simply because there are insufficient members interested in my families. It would, though, add something unique to our community here.

    Just an initial thought...

Many thanks to you and all your supporters for everything you do.

    Best regards

    Martin

    Hi Martin.

It sounds pretty good to me but needs to be put into practice. Apart from working conditions, Lifestyles etc how about adding illnesses and how patients were treated as there was no N.H.S. in those days.

As I say, sounds good to me. Go draw up those plans Martin D

    Hi Jon

Thanks for the update on AA4, sounds as though we're going to have a site that is the envy of all.

Your hard work is very much appreciated by me and I'm sure, of AA's members and I look forward to seeing it online in due course.

Martin, your post make very interesting reading, and I agree with Chris, family history is not just about dates and certificates it's about everyday living, so please put Jon in the picture with your ideas and lets see where they take us.

    Nanna
