Question Streemline

Hi all,

I have placed this thread and agree that it may cause alot of discussion but will battle with it anyway.

I have recently been monitoring our boards performance and usage and thought it would be a good idea to get some feedback from you guys, after all, you are the reason for the boards being here.

As you can see from the POLL questions above, would you like us to streemline. If you would like to see some changes made PLEASE PLEASE answer this post with your views.

The Main Question:

What features, no matter ow big or small, do you think Ancestry Aid could do with out?

Purley An Example:
On the forum home page, do we need how many posts/threads are in that forum?
Those are the sort of questions you should be asking yourself. I would really appreciate it if everyone could have a serious think about this and start posting their views. No matter what the feature is that you would not mind seeing removed, please let us know.
Also, if you see a post to remove something that you want to keep then reply to state why you do.

This is a "group" brain storm. The idea is to try and make the site less cluttered and put some ease on the database without removing something our members still want. This will in turn make the site faster and easier to use.

Lets get this going and have some good replies.

Remember: YOUR INPUT MATTERS TO US

Thanks all.

Hi Jon
Taking your example, no we do not need to know how many threads/posts in each forum.
Personally I would remove the surnames of interest and encourage members to upload their gedcom as i find it easier to search the gedcom database rather than trawl the posts in surnames. Just my opinion.

Thumbs up Re: Streemline

I have to admit Don that that is a very good, and also very valid idea.

Of course I would leave it upto everyone else to make their own choices on that but I for one agree with what you are saying.

The flip side:

the only flip side I can see on that is that the surname boards make it easier for members to place in more detail and actually have a discussion if needed on the surname they are researching.

Thanks and keep them coming.

Hi Jon,

I like the clutter but I agree that the number of threads and posts is not really neccessary as long as it does not affect the numbers posted by members in their profile.

The surname forum I think you should keep, as not everyone is able to use the gedcom for various reasons. However, There is the most wanted surnames database as well and the most wanted forum. Do we need them all. Surnames get put in the surnames and counties forums and are mostly repeated. Sometimes in all four places.
Another area where some space could be saved is by removing the closed threads in the help offered by members where they have failed to respond to PM. Some of these have been closed a couple of years at least.

Those are due to go Light this is part of the streamlineing. The new games have only just started up. If I were to remove them all you would all lose the points you recieved for posting them. Jon will be removing these in due course.

What about all the old birthday threads...I would have thought that some may have been repeated over the time the site has been running wouldn't that clear some space...? Surely we only need the most recent birthday for each member....

Yes, I agree with the birthday thread. A lot of the ones at the beginning were to members that never did post anyway.
