I have been building a family tree on the free site you provide at ../myancestry/. As far as I can tell it is not the one that is being deleted from your site.
Reading this notice made me realize that I do not have my own copy on my own computer of all that I have managed to put together. So my questions are: 1. Can I export my family tree to my own computer using the export tree option on the 'manage family tree' page, and 2. If I export the tree, does it remove the tree or just export a copy? I don't want to delete the tree, just get my own copy of it. Could someone please advise on this for me? Thank you all very much. I would also just like to say that when I had undertaken to do this family tree, I thought I would be in for years on years of futile research looking for needles in haystacks ~ I was not looking forward to it much at all. However, since finding this website, I have been able to build a family tree going back two centuries in as little as a couple of months! With thanks to some great and wonderful efforts from 'slizzy' I have been astounded at how quickly it has all taken shape. Thank you once again. I and my family, especially my father will be very happy (once he sees it ~ it's a surprise gift for him.) Thank you all once again. You have made what I thought would be difficult at best as simple as it could possibly be. ![]() ![]() Deborah Orton Canada (researching Orton's, Coulton's, Vicker's, Crowther's, Ough's, Reeve's, Shackleton's, Anderton's ~ all UK, Yorkshire) |

Hi there,
I think you may be getting us mixed up with another site. Ancestry Aid does NOT have any directory called "../myancestry/". If you still think you are having problems pleas feel free to let me know. Kindest regards |

Thanks Jon. There HAS been some confusion. My family tree was on ancestry.co.uk/myancestry. What confused me was that all the help that I was getting was apparently from ancestryaid.co.uk, who also, through slizzy's efforts helped me get in touch with another family tree on ancestry.co.uk.
I can also see now even the little toolbar icons are different. It just thought the difference was between the 'tree' and 'forum' aspects of the site. My apologies. I will look to them to resolve my issue. Deborah Orton |

Hi Deborah,
Whatever tree maker you use, exporting a gedcom only moves a copy of the tree. It does not remove it from it's original sourse. This only happens if you "Delete tree". I export my tree from ancestry.co.uk on a regular basis but it has no affect on my tree there. |
