Hi all,



I have had another update on the new Ancestry Aid Family Tree Maker. The system is looking very good indeed. At the moment we are still on for going live early next month (maybe sooner).



For those of you that have used the tree maker over at Ancestry you will find our version easy to use. We have designed the tree maker based on theirs as we found it to be the best one out there.



Some of the features included:

• Start your tree manually or upload your GEDCOM
  
• Each member can create up to 8 (eight) seperate trees on their account.
  
• Inline editing of people in your tree.
  
• Add photos to your tree and to people in your tree.
  
• Upload files and stories to your tree and link them to people.
  
• Write stories and articles.
  
• Invite family and friends to view your tree automatically simply by adding their email address. The system will take care of the rest for you.
  
• Add life events to people in your tree.
  
• Choose to keep your tree private and exclude it from search results.
  
• Integrated AncestryAid hints for hot matches from your tree to other trees in the system.
  
• Pedegree view with AJAX animation (like on Ancestry)
  
• Add comments (like a notebook) to people in your tree. Allow others to make comments.
  
• Search other trees in the system and contact the owner of the tree via Ancestry Aid's Private Message system.
  
• Import & Export your GEDCOM file.
  

Those are a few of the features that I can think of off the top of my head. Alot of the ground work has been done and I will be soon entering the Q&A phase of the project with the designers.

That sounds brilliant Jon. I like the idea of having up to 8 trees. At last I might be able to sort mine out a bit. No more duplicate names on the same tree.

Another quick update. We have thought long and hard about wether or not to have the system as an integration of your Ancestry Aid account or a stand alone system that you have to register for.

Following the recent s pammers that try to ruin our boards it has been decided that the system will be more secure if each member registeres for a seperate account on the tree maker.



How it will work.



People Who Are Registered With AA.

• You will be required to register for a tree maker account.
  
• Only 1 (one) password needed.
  
• Your AA Username and UserID will be automatically linked to your tree.
  

Not Registered With AA.

• No One will be able to create a Family Tree account without first registering for a main AA account. The tree registration form will not allow you to do so.
  

We have done this because we think it will increase the security of the the whole system. If we done it so that you automatically get a tree account when you register for AA that would mean that all the "s pammers" that registered would also have a tree account, that is simply NOT safe.

Hi Jon, you should keep a diary . I think you said that when you first put a tree maker on the site. It sounds a lot easier just having one password to remember . I don't think many members ever did use all three.
