Thread: Looking For My Lost Uncle - Olaf Maurstad

Olaf Maurstad born 18 Jan 1898 Oppland, Norway.
Arrived in USA about 1909 or 1910 thru Halifax NS, Canada.
Family emigrated to Alberta, Canada in 1921 from North Dakota.
Olaf apparently had a disagreement with his father and moved back to the USA in 1923.
He was last heard of in Washington State area (Spanoway/Tacoma) in 1950's after death of his father Mathias.
Father and mother were: Mathias and Petra Maurstad

Lena
Henry
Ida
Grace
All persons are now deceased.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I have never found a record of marriage for Olaf, nor any record of death. I did find his World War I Draft Registration Card 1917-18 which lists an Olof Maurstad, residing in county of McHenry, North Dakota. His fathers card was Mathias Thorstinson Maurstad. Maurstad is the farm they came from in Norway. Mathias married Petra from Maurstad farm and he and family assumed that name upon marriage and emigration. Mathias was sponsored to work on the Hall farm outside Willow City, North Dakota. Family moved into Willow City in 1919. Mathais went to southern Alberta and moved the family up in 1921. Worked a farm at Nobleford until 1931, then moved to Bowness, Alberta

Hey, assuming that is you Gary, Jarret here. I did a quick search a few years ago regarding Olaf, and am posting the reply I got below.


Good Day,
I could not locate Mr Maurstad in a directory or in the obituary
index. I did locate a reference to an Ole Maurstad, aged 54 years,
dying in Pierce County, Washington state in February 1954, in the
Washington State Death Index. I did not locate an obituary or funeral
notice in the newspapers.
My apologies for not being able to give a more definitive answer on
the fate of a loved one.

Thanks Jarret, that's more than I have found. Last time anyone heard from him was after the death of grampa in 1950.
