Default SALMON/SOWMAN

hi
I have the Surnames of Salmon and Sowman in my tree, coming mainly from South Suffolk and The North East Essex areas.

In my tree, the name starts of as SOWMAN, and at some stage around the 1870's - changes to SALMON.

there are 2 theories.
1. The name was misheard - (accents etc taken into account)

2. There is a strepoccoal (?spelling) disease called erysipealas - which can be related to swine, and humans do get it. (Yes I've had it once never again - thanks) and at the time it was around more and due to connections with swine - name changed.
