Re: Fry
My gg-granddad had a brother Cornelius, but he was born May 1837 and died 4th April 1838, he was in Charlton. Maybe it was a family name?
In 1851, mine were living in St Mary Westport, in 'The Dean of Malmesbury' They were living in a place called Blanchard Green.
Richard Fry - head - 39 - Ag lab - born Charlton, Malmesbury
Jane Fry (nee Leonard) - wife - 39 - born Charlton, Malmesbury
Alfred Fry - son - 11 - scholar - born Charlton, Malmesbury
John fry - son - 7 - born Millbourne, Malmesbury
Frederick Fry - son - 4 - born Westport, Malmesbury
I think our families may have lived a little too far away from each other. if you look on a map - click on the link -

You can see that Charlton and Millbourne are a bit north of Malmesbury, whereas Hullavington, is right down the south bit, almost where the M4 is now.
I have just been through all of my Fry's and I haven't got any in Hullavington.... yet! Who knows what we may discover in the future, we may be connected, it's just a case of looking.
Mine just stayed where they were, even in the 1901, they are still there, still working on Millbourne farm. Which is why it's a bit strange that my gg-granddad decided to stop being an ag lab in Malmesbury, and travel to East London (Essex then) to work on the 'new' Royal Docks.
I have unearthed a few skeletons, which has been facinating. His son John (g-granddads brother) was in Chelmsford Prison in 1891. Another two of his sons William & Richard, killed a bloke on Richards wedding night. They are in Pentonville in the 1901 census.
I don't know what John did, but I found out what the other two did via the Black Sheep Index, which is a wonderful site. I can't remember the address, but just google Black sheep Index, and it should come up. I have 5 newspaper reports, and a police report. From them being arrested, and remanded in custardy in West Ham police station, to their sentencing at The Old Bailey. Their nephew, my Nan's eldest brother gave evidence, he was only 10 years old!!
