Nanna - thanks for looking around. I do have that information.
My information is at

I estimate Samuel was born about 1786, from US censuses.
The parents of Samuel Smith Clapham FURNIVAL are Daniel and Anne. They also had William Frances Furnival, 30 SEP 1816. I have found a Daniel FURNIVAL in Waddington, New York, (he died there in 1833, age 44, thus having a plausible birthdate) and a Samuel Clapham FURNIVAL in Maine. I can't connect them to my Samuel, but it all seems very plausible.
The listing of Edward FURNIVAL is intriguing, but I haven't been able to connect that to Samuel either.
My Samuel FURNIVAL married Ann KNOWLES (which may be her surname, or her 1st husband's surname) 12 SEP 1811 in St. Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England.
They had
Mary Ann c 1 MAR 1812 in St. Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, ENG
William George c 27 JUN 1813 in St. Peter
Samuel c 11 JAN 1816 in St. Peter
When they came to the US, a Jane FURNIVAL was also with them, born about 1809.
When I was in Salt Lake City a few years ago, I looked at all the Liverpool Directories I could find and found Samuel and Daniel listed several times. I can't put my hands on the info now.

The Edinburgh Advertiser listed Samuel FURNIVAL as bankrupt in 1817. Would there be records of that?
Thanks. Jane
