Default Re: Hi from ' Down Under'

Wow, you certainly have a vast family index My family originated from Thomas Arndell, who came out with the first fleet. His daughter Mary Louisa Arndell married my great ( x6 ) grandfather John lakeland in Hobart, and it is his family I am researching. He came to NSW as Private Secratary to Governor Macquarie, and was appointed Provost Marshall & Suprintendent of Convicts in Tasmania.
There is little if anything on his background other than that, although he was nephew to James Gordon in Tasmania, who also married a daughter of Thomas Arndell. I cant find what ship he came on......possibly on the same ship as Gov. Macquarie which was the 'Dromedary' in 1809.
You know, what saddens me is the lack of any memorobilia from the early days, which would give some insight to the people they were. letters, photos, journals, these were all thought of as rubbish in later generations and were disposed off.....a crying shame to those of us who are looking to 'know' their ancestors.
Cheers, Brenda
