Ancestry has the widest range of records and is adding to them all the time. The main records are BMDs 1837 to present and all censuses 1841-1901, but lots of others besides. You only get the reference for BMDs and don't forget they are free on freeBMD up to about 1928 and advancing all the time. The censuses are often quite badly transcribed which you will know from being on this site. If you are seriously interested the best thing is to look for one of their 14day free trials - take it when you have a bit of time to explore the site - and don't forget to cancel it before the time is up or you will be landed with a hefty subscription.
Findmypast is the other big site and expanding fast - it has the bmd (just the same info as Ancestry - a bit easier to search I think) & the censuses except 1851 but I expect it will be added soon. A bit better transcribed I think & you can do address searches which can be useful. They too have other records & are adding all the time - have a look at the site to see.
Hope this helps
Gillian
Hi Gillian

Thankyou for the information I had a look at find my past and came accross some of my family members that were born and died in England on there but I wasn't sure what they were like. And they are a lot easier to find information on then Ancestry and Genes Reunited to too expensive in Australian dollars.

Thanks

Tanja

Surnames I am trying to research are Skilton (Surrey, England and South Africa), Thomas (Llanelly in Wales), Turner (UK), Godden (Surrey, England), Couture (Canada), Bloodworth (Surrey, England)
